The Waynesville Store was constructed in the 1930s and was an upscale clothier called "The Toggery." It consists of two levels and a mezzanine beautifully adorned with a pressed-tin ceiling. When it operated as The Toggery, a pulley system was used to transfer messages from the offices, located where our present-day office is, and the main selling floor. All departments - clothing featuring Woolrich and Pendleton; mercantile's Pioneer Folk Toys and stone ground flour and meals; shoes showing such names as Clarks, Merrell, Asolo, and Lowa, and outdoor with its lines in Royal Robbins, Columbia, Gregory, and MSR - are conveniently located for perusing. It's hard not to find something just right for confectionery fanciers in our selection of 500 old-fashioned candies - Mary Janes, chocolate covered peanuts, wax bottles and more!
