MARMOT

The college years... a time of camaraderie, exploration, and finding your future. Two University of California Santa Barbara students found their life’s callings while on a glaciology field trip. They formed the Marmot Club, which challenged members to climb snow-covered peaks with another Marmot. It also led to development of clothing and gear that would keep them comfortable when embarking on their adventures.

The Marmot Company was born in 1974 in Grand Junction, CO. Their first big break was providing very puffy jackets, now known as the Golden Mantle, for a Clint Eastwood film called The Eiger Sanction. In 1976, they met Joe Tanner of W.L. Gore & Assoc. Marmot made and tested sleeping bags using Gore-Tex fabric. Currently, they are the oldest customer of W. L .  Gore. From humble beginnings, their mission remains designing the highest quality performance product.
